You have decided to strike it out on your own. Raise you flag, claim your independence, go after your piece of the American Pie, and realize your dream.
Others have done it. They carry their heads high and have the respect of everyone around.
Why should you not join the ranks of the self employed? If others can do it then why can’t you? You are able bodied, smart, and aggressive, heck you’re even fairly good looking.
You have been saving your money for your chance to make your dreams a reality.
You have done all kinds of research, and figured out what it is you would love to do with your business. You have even prepared your first Business Plan of a sort. Your dream of sailing your own ship is finally at hand.
Yet to lie down the groundwork and foundation of a business there are serious requirement to be met depending on the form you decide to take for your business either as yourself or as a company, corporation, llc, nonprofit etc..
The type of business you decide upon will help determine the naming of your new business.
What’s in a name you ask? Everything your business name is your businesses calling card, its identity. This is your business and you get to name it.

You have decided to go to the local library, and do research in the business section. Next an exhaustive search on the internet will likely prove fruitful.

My advice is to call a lawyer, and explain what you have in mind. Like what type of business you wish to start etc. I am sure you will get good information from a qualified attorney. You may be asked to visit the attorney’s office and to bring certain documentation and be told what the costs would be to move forward with the attorney firm.
When starting a business you need to find out what is required of you by government. Depending on the type of business you create, its formal structure, where you are located, and the NAME you chose for your business you will have some minimum requirements, and different options with different government agencies that you may wish to pursue in the future like for example trademarks.
Let’s get back to your business name, if it is not your name than it is what is called a fictitious name (a made up name) a DBA ‘doing business as’ each state has special requirements for you and, your business.
You will need to register business name with the State where you and your business are located.
You may have to do something with your States taxing authority.
You also may have requirements with the Federal Government, how about the IRS.
You may even have requirements with your local government, City etc. licenses, permits etc.
